In short time, 4 Pines Pale Ale and Kolsch (a light German style golden ale) have become household names in Australia whilst their craftier creations such as Stout or ‘Space Beer’(worth a search on Google), ESB and “Keller Door” seasonal brews including the current India Brown Ale are receiving rave reviews from beer geeks all over the world. Adding to their popularity, the team at 4 Pines have recently released the Pale and Kolsch in 500ml bottles, a great option for weeknights when a six pack maybe a tad too much!
Swanbourne Cellars is proud to be featuring five 4 Pines brews this week. We couldn’t agree more with the tasting notes ourselves, here are the brewers’ notes below including our Swanbourne Cellars favourite, the Keller Door Series India Brown Ale.
Pale Ale (available in 500ml bottles at 2 for $10) or $22 for a 6 pack in 300ml stubbies
“A colourful deep Ruby Amber appearance. Aromas of Pine and Grapefruit overlay a malt background. On the palate full bodied malty flavours with a tight and bitter finish.” I could only add that it would be a fantastic match on a spring day accompanied with a light curry such as chicken korma.
Kolsch (available in 500ml bottles at 2 for $10) or $22 for a 6 pack in 300ml stubbies
“Light straw in colour. Aromas of lemon/lime prelude a light malty palate, finishing crisp and clean showing hints of spice and citrus.” I love this beer and have tried it with barbeque prawns, fantastic!
Extra Special Bitter (available in 500ml bottles at $7 each)
“A full-flavoured, amber-coloured English Ale. Rich toffee and raisin sweetness from the malt, balanced with a firm bitterness and a fresh herbal hop aroma.” The name is misleading as it’s actually not that bitter, more of a malt driven beer rather than a “New World hop monster.” Ideal with sticky date pudding, see for yourself!
Stout, $22 for a 6 pack in 300ml stubbies
“A dry Irish style stout, presenting almost black, bearing a generous tan head. The aroma profile is of coffee, chocolate and caramel malts. These are matched on the pallet with a full bodied, smooth finish and a balancing bitterness. Currently being tested to become the first certified ‘space beer’ in the world!” Best consumed in space for ok on Earth for now. For the full story see here: www.4pinesbeer.com.au/beers/stout#Beer
Keller Door Series- India Brown Ale (available in 500ml bottles at $10 each)
“This malty ale has hop driven assuredness, lustful notes of walnut & pistachio & a finish so smooth it should be a Morgan Freeman monologue.” At $10 a bottle, it might be more than you’re used to paying but you can sit on this one for over one hour and appreciate the malt character as it warms up and develops in your glass.
