From the Clare Valley & Adelaide Hills

Artwine is the creation of Glen and Judy Kelly who bought the vineyards back in 1997. Fast forward to today and with their passion for the lighter European styles of grape varieties, means their plantings now include Pinot Grigio, Fiano, Viognier, Montepulciano, Graciano, Tempranillo, Prosecco and Grüner Veltliner as well as Cabernet Franc, Albariño, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Grenache bush vines on the property are about approximately 100 years old. After initially selling their grapes to other winemakers, they decided to make wines they wanted to drink and the couple launched the Artwine label in 2008 and opened their cellar door in 2013.

Judy now looks after sales and marketing along with the cellar door and daily management of the winery. Glen is focused on managing the vineyards.

They’re making some award winning wines and won 8 Trophies in 2016 from the Australia & New Zealand Boutique Wine Awards and the Clare Valley Wine Show. These included “Best Rosé of show” for the Temptress Rosé as well as “Best exhibitor of Show” and “Best Small Producer”

Glen and Judy work together with talented winemakers; Joanne Irvine, WineWise in the Barossa (Barossa Valley Winemaker of the year in 2009) and Michael Sykes from Lodestone in the Adelaide Hills. While studying wine making at the University of Adelaide, Michael won the prestigious Brokenwood Prize, which is given to the top second year oenology pupil for a place on the vintage team at Brokenwood.

There are two vineyards in the Clare Valley, on Sawmill Road and on Springfarm Road, plus the cellar door in the Adelaide Hills, about 40 kilometres south east of Adelaide.

We have the Artwine 2015 ‘Leave Your Hat On’ in the summer edition of On the Vine, click here to download the catalogue. Drop in and talk to us about their other wines that we stock in the store!
