Domaine Naturaliste is our Winery of the Month. Bruce Dukes was making wine for other people locally and internationally (Niebaum-Coppola winery in California) for over 20 years before he set up Domaine Naturaliste in Margaret River, named after the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge.
At the University of Western Australia, Bruce studied agronomy and then at the University of California, Davis, he studied a master’s degree in oenology while being Assistant Winemaker at Niebaum-Coppola winery.
Domaine Naturaliste has 3 brands; Discovery Series, Direction Series and Flagship Series and they produce Sauvignon Blancs, Semillons, Chardonnay, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a Sauvignon Semillon blend.
The Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Chardonnay as well as Syrah are from vineyards in the cooler southern regions while the Cabernets come from the warmer central to northern Margaret River.
A relative newcomer to owning and running your own winery hasn’t intimated Bruce. He was awarded “Best WA Winemaker 2011″ by Wines of Western Australia.
We’ll have some of their wines on tasting in April so watch this space for details!
