Feral Brewing opened its doors in October 2002 and since then they haven’t stopped winning awards. Family owned and operated, they are a serious competitor in the growing market of craft beers (check out the latest review/interview here). Or go and visit them in Baskerville, in the Swan Valley. They have a restaurant with a beer and food matching menu as well as 16 beers available to try on tap (which change) not to mention some of the local wine. They’re open Sunday to Thursday 11.00am to 5.00pm, Friday and Saturday 11.00am to late.
The story of Feral Brewing all started when school friends Brendan Varis (now known as known as a ‘hop aficionado’) and Al Carragher were travelling along the west coast of the States. With the idea in mind, they both worked in the beer industry; in brewery installations and beer sales which no doubt would have helped them in their research and developing the business. Then in October 2002they set up Feral Brewing in the Swan Valley.
Al now works in Melbourne and runs the Great Northern Hotel. Brendan is in the Swan Valley and works alongside brewer Will Irving. Their numerous accolades include being named Champion Exhibitor at the Australian International Beer Awards in 2009, as well as awards for its Hop Hog US IPA, Razorback Barleywine and Feral White – a Belgian witbier. More recently, in 2012 Feral was named AIBA Champion Large Australian Brewery. At the 2012 Australian International Beer Awards Feral received the overall championship trophy for Champion Large Australian Brewery. The Hop Hog won the Best International Pale Ale trophy. The Hop Hog has also won Australia’s top 100 craft beer poll.
Feral is even making its way to the UK featuring its Runt, the 2010 AIBA Champion Ale, at the JD Wetherspoon chain’s nationwide Real Ale Festival.
The brewers produce some tasty beers experimenting with the hops and flavours; spice and fruit. Drop in and see what you think. We sell the Sly Fox and Hop Hog by the 4 pack.
See you at Swanny Cellars!
