Hewitson is family owned and very focused on making wine that is a true reflection of where the grapes are grown. They also want to leave a minimal footprint using solar energy, recycle water and focusing on encouraging natural biodiversity. Founded in 1998, the vines are much older, some date from the 1850s!
They now have a new cellar door located just next to their vineyards with some stunning views, so we can see from the site! We plan to go there one day!
The chief winemaker is Dean Hewitson who completed a winemaking degree at Australia’s world-famous Roseworthy Agricultural College over 30 years ago. After that he travelled around France using his knowledge working in vintages throughout this country; Champagne in the north, Burgundy and Beaujolais further down the country, Rhône and Provence in the south and Bordeaux to the west.
This winery has vineyards in Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills, Eden Valley, Fleurieu Peninsula, producing all the wines at the cellar door in the Barossa.
The whole family is involved in the business with Louise Hewitson the International Brand Manager working alongside the marketing team and the three children Ned, Henry and Harriet spending time in the vineyards over the school holidays. No doubt
