This black-skinned wine grape is making some interesting and tasty wines when yields are restricted and the vineyards sites are not so hot. Some well-known Californian producers making Zinfandel include Ravenswood, Storybook Mountain and Rosenblum. The grape is also found in South Africa as well as closer to home, here in WA, Cape Mentelle.
In the Winter Edition of On the Vine, the panel recommended the 2015 Manora Primitivo from Puglia. Ripeness and generous flavour along with a spicy life, balance and cleansing acidity. We loved it. $19.99 single but this weekend it’s 25% off, get in quick!
